Support the Arts

April 15th is World Arts Day, a day declared by the International Association of Art to celebrate the fine arts and promote awareness of creative activity.

Worldwide cancellations of events because of the global pandemic has had lasting effects on scores of businesses and artists who rely on them to make their living and pay their bills.

Make this World Arts Day a time to offer your support. Here are some ways ideas and resources:

Ideas:

  • Attend an event, performance, or exhibit either in-person or virtually
  • Take an online art class
  • Buy a piece of art for your home or office — it doesn’t have to be expensive.
  • Think of an artist who you especially enjoy and personally support them by tipping in person or signing up for their Patreon.
  • Visit the National Art Education Association and support them.
  • Shop at Etsy online or a local gallery in person and buy a piece of art for someone you know with an upcoming birthday just to surprise them.
  • Make a donation to your local venues such as live music or theaters.
  • Make a Free Little Art Gallery for your neighborhood where you share miniature art and anything creative, from paintings and drawings to pottery and needlepoint to painted rocks.. The concept of this creative trend is to “leave small art, take small art, or just enjoy”, like a small, free library for art. The title of a January 2021 Washington Post article describes them quite well — “It’s like a Little Free Library, but there’s art inside. People are flocking to it, tiny art in hand”
